Many Voices, One Vision – Congregational Luncheon TODAY at noon
Over the summer we have been carefully reviewing the results from last spring’s small group meetings, congregational gatherings, and conversations with people in the community. We’d like to invite you to our congregational luncheon today in fellowship hall so that we can share what we’ve learned.

Meals on Wheels
We are involved in mission in many different ways--one of those is the Meals on Wheels program. This is hands on involvement that costs us only a little bit of our time (1-1/2 - 2 hours). The Meals on Wheels program provides regular contact with the elderly, and the primary goal is to help people remain in their home as long as possible. This is a ministry that would not be able to operate without volunteers from this and other congregations; currently 11 churches deliver meals. Our participation is a vital contribution to this program. If you feel you could join others from this congregation in providing delivery service during the week of November 19 to November 23, please call Marina Hoffman or sign up in the Connecting Link on your preferred day. Your participation is appreciated. ~ Marina Hoffman

Cookie Walk Talk
Offer up a grateful song for those who have offered their assistance. Please pray with us for more to join in. You are the heart and soul of our church. Please spread your light to bless those in our church, our community, and beyond. Even with just one to two batches of cookies from each church family, we would have an amazing year. Please sign up in the connecting link. Nancy Blakely and Marypatriece Raupp, your cookie coaches.

Cookbooks
Beyond the Cookie Walk cookbooks are on sale before and after each service in Fellowship Hall today. Cookbooks are $12.00 each and all proceeds from this sale will go toward the Soldiers Cookielift Project.

Wanted... Cookie Walk Coordinator
We need a Cookie Walk Coordinator to help along with Nancy Blakely and MaryPatriece Raupp. If interested please call or e-mail Nancy or MaryPatriece. Thank you!!

Keep Your Lamps—a new small group ministry at RCLPC
This Advent, take some time to refuel. The Advent season is a time of preparation, but not just preparation for presents and parties and big meals—it’s a time to prepare ourselves and our communities for God to break in and change our lives. Start small—with a small group! These small groups of 8-10 people meet for 60 or 90 minutes, here at church, at a restaurant, or in a home. You study the Advent and Christmas story together, you share your lives, and you pray together. This is a time to fill your lamp with oil so your light can shine bright through the whole season and beyond. (Groups have the option of continuing past Christmas with new books if they so desire!) We hope everyone will take advantage of this opportunity to study and pray together this Advent. Look for more information and sign-up sheets in the Connecting Link. You can also learn more from Teri.

WEAVE—upcoming adult ed classes
November 7, Richard will teach a one-session class on religion and science, exploring our place as human beings in the universe. November 14, Ann Legg will teach a one-session class on Colombia, the culture, people, history, and current situation. November 21 we will take a break for Thanksgiving!

Global Gift Shop:
Stories behind the Fair Trade Projects

A Greater Gift purchases items from the Nyabigena Soapstone Carvers in Kenya. The rural community has been able to start a primary school, with resources from the carvers providing tuition support, school uniforms, books, and medical care. 70 children attend the school, including carvers’ children and orphans whose parents have died of HIV/AIDS.

Divine chocolate bars are just that – divine. They’re made by the first chocolate company in the world to have farmer-owners like Comfort Kumeah, national secretary for the growers’ cooperative in Ghana. She says, “Before fair trade, we growers were cheated. People adjusted the scales. We got little money from the government purchasing clerk. (Now) I have been able to send all of my children to school.” Comfort also teaches kindergarten to a class of 120 children.

Just Coffee obtains coffee directly from farmers in Chiapas, Mexico, who are struggling to support their families. Before, their coffee was sold to middlemen who did not properly compensate the growers. Families often fled north with the hope of crossing the border of the U.S. to find jobs. In the last decade, over 2000 people, many of them farmers from Chiapas, have died in the desert trying to cross into the U.S. Just Coffee pays a fair price --$1.30 per pound, rather than $.35 per pound -- for the coffee, allowing families to stay on their land.

Join us in spreading hope and justice with every purchase.

Opportunities to Study and Create
* Lectionary Study group (LSG--Get High on the Bible!).
The LSG meets every Tuesday at noon. We invite everyone to bring a brownbag lunch and an open mind. We study the lectionary texts (the scripture readings) two months ahead of when they will be used in worship. Not only is this an opportunity for scripture study and spiritual growth, but it also helps to shape the theme for our worship.

* Worship Planning Group (WPG).
The WPG meets every Thursday at 6:30 pm. This group takes the theme for a given Sunday and helps develop creative ways to worship for each of our services. If you have an interest in helping to plan our worship, please come on Thursday at 6:30 pm. Everyone is welcome!

* RCLPC Worship Blog.
Have an idea for worship but can’t make the WPG meeting? The RCLPC Worship Blog is updated every week with scripture and themes for upcoming worship services. You are invited to read the text and the theme and then share whatever comments, suggestions, or ideas you have. We will do our best to incorporate these into the planning process. The Worship Blog is at rclpcworship.blogspot.com. It is also linked on our main website from the worship page.

WORSHIP AIDS AVAILABLE
There are new hearing assistant devices and large print bulletins available to those who may need them. Please ask an usher for assistance.

TUESDAYS at BORDERS
10:15 am

Great discussion, delicious coffee and good friends - all can be found at "Tuesdays at Borders". Come join us on Tuesday mornings at the Borders Cafe in Crystal Lake. Share your story over a great cup of coffee or tea. (They have an awesome bakery too!) For questions, feel free to contact Dale Prindiville or Kathy Rabe. See you next Tuesday!

PEW PALS
Outside the double doors and down at the bottom of the stairs from the sanctuary, there are some beanie babies for children to take in with them to worship. There are also some clipboards with coloring pages and crayons attached. We hope that the beanie babies and clipboards will help your children be excited about coming to worship.

THE CARING CART
The Caring Crafters group has stamped a variety of cards for you to use to send to members and friends. The cart is located in Fellowship Hall. Select the card, write the message, address the envelope and put it in the box. We will put a stamp on it and mail it for you. If you are able you are welcome to make a donation so we can purchase stamps and materials to make more cards.

PRAYER CHAIN REQUESTS:
Prayer chain requests are now being done through the office. Please call the office at 815-459-1132 or email the request to office@rclpc.org. Please specify whether the request is confidential or can be shared with the congregation.

PAST SERMONS AVAILABLE:
Did you know that sermons are available here on the church website? Go to www.rclpc.org and click on SERMONS for a list of previous sermons.

Many announcements and sign-up opportunities can be found in the Connecting Link, the hallway inside the front glass doors leading to the Fellowship Hall. It serves to connect you with resources and opportunities. Check out the Connecting Link!.
