Welcome to Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church

Marriage is a gift of God and a means of grace.
In the life-long union of marriage we can know the joy of God,
who made us in God’s own image.
May God’s blessings be upon you as you plan your wedding.

In Christian marriage, two individuals are called to live faithfully together, to love each other with respect, tenderness, and delight. We welcome you to this church and look forward to assisting you in preparing for your wedding.

First, you’ll want to contact the church administrative assistant, Kim Stewart, to see if the date and time you have in mind is open and that one of our pastors is available that day. Then contact one of our pastors, John Dillon or Teri Peterson, at 815-459-1132 to ask them for approval to hold your wedding here.

Once your wedding has been approved by one of the pastors, please send into the church office a $50 non-refundable reservation fee to hold your wedding date along with the enclosed information sheet filled in with as much information as possible. Please note that the wedding date is not confirmed on the church calendar until the $50 fee is received.

Contact one of our pastors directly at 815-459-1132—John Dillon at johnd@rclpc.org or Teri Peterson at teri@rclpc.org—to set up your meetings. Up to four sessions may be scheduled, and should be completed at least two weeks before your wedding. One of our pastors will meet with you, whether or not he/she is the presiding pastor.

Please contact one of our Wedding Coordinators, Joy Martin at 815-344-2817, Dawn Gilman at 815-245-4336, or Kristi Geggie at 847-651-3094, to arrange for a meeting. Every wedding must include the attendance of one of our Wedding Coordinators any time the bridal party is at the church, as well as at the rehearsal and wedding. The Wedding Coordinators are members of the church and will go over all details of your wedding with you. If you wish to meet with a coordinator more than one time, in person, she will be glad to do that. Additional meetings are available at $25.00 per hour.

Our organist, Sherri Dees, must be contacted at 815-459-3652 to arrange for a meeting. She needs to approve your plans for music and for any other musicians. She can also arrange for a church soloist if you’d like.

Marriage License: Obtain your marriage license at the Office of the County Clerk, McHenry County Courthouse at 2200 N Seminary Ave in Woodstock. Their phone number is 815-334-4242. Bring your marriage license to the church the night of the rehearsal, and leave it with the Pastor or wedding coordinator. A valid license is necessary for the wedding to take place.

Wedding Attendants: When planning for your bridal party, please keep in mind the space available at the front of the sanctuary. Ushers are an important component of your wedding. We remind you that when children are included in the ceremony their participation should be age-appropriate.

Rehearsal: A rehearsal is required for every wedding.

Dressing at Church: Dressing rooms are available for the wedding parties. We will open the building two hours prior to the wedding service stated time.

Decorations: Your florist may set up two hours prior to the wedding service. If you’d like a runner for the church aisle (25 feet), the florist can provide that. Please bring your own ceremonial candles. Pew bows or flowers may be attached to pew arms on the center aisle with holders. These decorations can be obtained from your florist. There are 22 pews, and the church has a set of bows that can be used, if preferred. Flowers may be placed on the communion table, on plant stands, or on the shelf behind the communion table. The stairways and banisters need to be kept clear and fully accessible. The bride and groom may either take the flowers following the ceremony, or leave them for services on Sunday. We will give recognition that day with an announcement of your wedding.

Wedding Considerations: The wedding coordinator will go over special touches for your wedding, such as having a unity candle, roses for the moms/grandmothers, guest book, receiving line, etc. No rice, balloons or birdseed are permitted inside or outside the church building. Bubbles may be handed out and used outside the church. Alcohol is never permitted at any time in the church building or surrounding area.

Pictures: Guests may take photos as the bride comes down the aisle and as the couple leave. During the ceremony, only the professional photographer may take non-flash photos. Any pictures that require a flash can be taken before or following the ceremony. Your photographer should consult with the wedding coordinator prior to the wedding and maintain minimal movement in the sanctuary, adhering to church policy.
