The SPIRIT of Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church Oct. 11, 2006
Click here to see the October calendar.
I have arrived, at long last! After a four-day road trip from Yakima, Washington, I’m moved into my new condo, bought a car, and am ready to begin our adventure together. Thank you all for the warm welcome, the help, the advice, and the smiles I’ve received so far. I look forward to our journey and our ministry together!
Peace,
Teri

| Seeking to Connect to God in a Different Way? |
Are you seeking to connect to God in a different way? Or maybe deepen the connection you already have? Have questions? Let's meet and start talking on Wednesday Oct 18 at 7 pm. The Secret Message of Jesus by Brian McLaren will be the backdrop for our discussion. Together we can explore, question, discover, discuss, support and pray. For more information please contact Jeff and Sheila Mohler.
RCLPC Senior High and Middle School are accepting pledges, as well as several adult members of RCLPC. Please contribute as we assist Church World Services in their effort to alleviate world hunger. 25% of your contribution will remain with the local Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen. Please sponsor a walker from church or sign up to walk in the Connecting Link.
Our church’s annual pumpkin and fall decoration sale will be the weekend of Oct. 14/15th and again on Oct. 21st/22nd. The hallways will be full of fun things to buy. So please wait and buy your pumpkins here! Cindee will also be taking orders for gourds, squash and small pie pumpkins that are great for school projects, scout groups or for crafts. Call Cindee to order yours today.
The Cookbooks Have Arrived...
They look great! If you are as excited as I am to see them, you can pick them up before or after each service thru Oct. 29th. Pick-up will be in Fellowship Hall. Each book is priced at $12.00. If you have reserved your cookbook(s), we would greatly appreciate a prompt pick-up and payment. If you are unable to pick-up your cookbook at church at these times, please call me and we can schedule a better time for you. Thank you. Nancy Blakely.
A Cookie Love Story
Our Cookie Walk cookbook contains a cookie love story of Louie and Lucy Grivett. It tells how they met and married (with great courage) at the ages of 91 and 84. Get your copy and read their sweet story, bake some cookies for the Cookie Walk and remember how much they cared about all of us. ~ Nancy Vazzano

Looking for ways to have fun and meet with new friends?
Check out the new opportunities for social gatherings on the poster in the Connecting Link. Some ideas are there, but please share ideas you would like to participate in at RCLPC. Fellowship Ministry: Cindy Borre, Doug Crane, Laura Pohl
If you have any of these qualities then you are perfect for the job. We need people to greet at all services. All it takes is about 15 minutes before each service to greet or direct visitors to the sanctuary. It’s not a hard job, but a very important part of our ministry. Please call or email one of us to let us know what Saturdays or Sundays you would like to greet. Hope to hear from you soon. We are making the schedule for October, November and December. So please look at your calendar and let us know what would work best for you. You can sign up for one week, two weeks, or even a month we are not fussy. Please prayerfully consider to greet at one of the services. Thank you. Please contact Dorothy Vick, Linda Peel, or Cheryl Dutkiewicz.
Food Pantry Holiday Dinners
Before you know it the holidays will be here. Can you help provide dinner for a food pantry family? The Northern Illinois Food Bank will sell dinners to the pantry at the same price as last year, $12.50. This will include a turkey, vegetables, buns and a dessert. We couldn’t buy as much locally for that amount. Make your checks payable to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry or the church. If you can do it by Oct. 15, it would help, as we need to give them a count. The dinners will go to families, seniors, single parent families and those in great need. About half of those we serve are children. Bless you all for all you do. ~ Nancy Vazzano
In Sanctuary in Chicago
Colombian Mennonite Pastor, William Calcedo, and his wife, Marina Gil, in sanctuary in Chicago until January will tell their story on Saturday, November 4 following the New Way Service and on Sunday, November 5 following the 11:00 service. In addition to serving as a pastor, William was coordinator of the Commission for Restoration, Life and Peace of the Evangelical Council of Colombia (CEDECOL). His role in CEDECOL was to accompany pastors and communities in conflict zones in the poverty-stricken and war-torn areas of southwestern Colombia. Marina has provided support and accompaniment to women of the communities that have been victims of the armed conflict. Please join the Mission Outreach Ministry for a light meal after each of those services. A sign-up is on the bulletin board in the Connecting Link or you may call the church office at 459-1132.

Special Services Needs You
We are recruiting good-hearted members from our congregation willing to join the Special Services team at RCLPC. The Special Services’ structure is a new venture created under the auspices of your church Board of Deacons. Volunteers will provide assistance to our members in specific areas during their time of need. This short term, or single occurrence assistance, is available at a time when someone requires additional support, or, is unable to provide the service themselves.
The process is simple. A member contacts the church office with a specific request from one of several focuses. The Deacon in charge will locate an appropriate volunteer from the lists of people proffering their time and ability. Once this pairing is made, the volunteer will be given the members contact and project information and follow through with the requester. We ask for your help with the following:
- Prepare and deliver a meal (home from hospital, new baby, etc.)
- Provide transportation (to/from church, doctor visit, shopping, etc.)
- Basic shopping assistance (staples)
- Minor home repairs or yard maintenance (change light bulbs, secure weather stripping, general yard clean up, etc.)
- Minor house cleaning (vacuuming, floor scrubbing, dusting, waxing, etc.)
- Provide limited child care (family emergency, doctor visit, etc.)
- Assist in funeral receptions (provide help in set up and meal preparation)
You may ask, how can I be included in the RCLPC catalog of service providers? Easy. Please contact Al Popp or Kim Stewart at the church office. Leave your name, phone number, and the areas of service and you will be contacted with further instructions. And, yes, you are welcome to sign up for as many areas as you like.
MANY THANKS
Many thanks from Marge and Karen Hansen for all the prayers and concern given during Karen's recuperation from neck surgery. It was a stretch but she is healing very well and expects to return to work by the end of the month. You are truly a wonderful church family. May God bless you and keep you and may He also know, as Karen says...Boy they sure know how to pray! ~ Marge Hansen
One Night Showing Only
There will be a one night showing of Al. Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth" at the Woodstock Classic Cinema Theatre, 209 Main Street, Woodstock, on Sunday, October 22nd, at 5:00 pm in the evening. Following the showing there will be a wine and cheese reception at the Defender's office, 124 Cass Street which is around the corner from the theatre.
