IT’S POTLUCK TIME !!!

SUNDAY
MAY 16th
NOON in

FELLOWSHIP HALL

AND YOU ARE INVITED.
NO, YOU ARE EXPECTED.
NO, YOU ARE ANTICIPATED.
OKAY......WE REALLY, REALLY WANT
YOU & YOUR FAMILY TO COME !!

This is a true blue Potluck Lunch.
Everyone brings a generous dish (or dishes) to pass and we all enjoy the fabulous fare together. We will supply table settings and beverages. Limited oven space is available.

Why are we having a Potluck?
We are taking some time to fill the congregation in on some Session/Deacon news including an explanation of their duties and the role of ministry teams in the church.

Followed by the...
LIVE... YOUTH SERVICE AUCTION
This is the biggest fundraiser of the year
for our Youth Group and their upcoming Mission Trip.

SEE YOU ON SUNDAY, the 16TH!!

Going once, Going twice....
It’s time for an auction—a service auction!

This year you can bid, LIVE!, on the skills, talents, and time of our youth. Several of our High School Youth will offer their time and talents to serve you this spring/summer—so make sure you come bid! Each participating youth is offering 5 hours of work, and it’s up to you to outbid your neighbor to get them! Come to the potluck on May 16th for your opportunity to support the youth mission trip to the Gulf Coast AND get some of your work done for you!

The Future of Our Church Needs Your Help!

Love, betrayal, fighting, jealousy, power ... sounds interesting right??

This can all be found in the Bible!! We are looking for Sunday school teachers and assistants for the 2010-2011 school year to teach our youth about the awesome stories found in the Bible and to share God’s love. No experience necessary. This rewarding commitment is about once a month. If you think you would be interested, please contact Karen Nelson for more information.

Confirmation Class 2010

Are you, or is someone you know, going into 8th grade (or older) next year and haven’t been on the confirmation journey yet? Plans are being formed for next year’s confirmation class, so please contact Teri ASAP if you’re interested! Thanks!

Pentecost Sunday - May 23rd

Please wear red on Pentecost Sunday. Red Geraniums will be available for sale at the Share the Bounty table on the following Sunday, May 30th.

Read with the Pastor
Book Group

The next book you are invited to join Teri in reading is Tribal Church: Ministering to the Missing Generation by Carol Howard Merritt. Books are available at most online bookstores. Join us on Wednesday, May 26 at 7pm as we discuss this book together! (Note the change in week day for this month only.)

“Godspell”
May 16, 9:30 and 11:00 worship

Jubilation youth choir will present selections from the musical Godspell, Sunday, May 16, during 9:30 and 11:00 worship. RCLPC’s own Rebecca Floyd is bringing her talents and experience in musical theater to lead the choir in an exuberant setting of this work. One of the biggest off-Broadway and Broadway successes of all time, Godspell is based primarily on the Gospel According to St. Matthew.

Please mark your calendars. Invite your family and friends to this special experience shared by our youth!

Share Your Music in Worship this Summer

Summer is around the corner. If you would like to share your music in worship this summer, please sign up on the sheets posted on the bulletin board outside the music room. Please contact Sherri Dees with questions or suggestions.

Build A Dream

On behalf of Build a Dream I would like to thank everybody at RCLPC for your generous support of our semi annual clothing sale. The two day sale raised $2,000 to help the children of El Vaquero, Mexico. Without the donations of clothes, your time helping to run the sale and individual financial donations we could not do this. You are all wonderful and you keep God smiling, thank you!
Grace & peace, Wayne Prindiville

Faith in Action Celebrates
Older Americans Month with Free Luncheon

Faith in Action of McHenry County (FIAMC) is pleased to host its fifth annual Spring Luncheon in honor of McHenry County senior citizens on Thursday, May 20, at 11:30am. The luncheon will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 West Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake, and is free of charge to senior attendees. In addition to lunch, attendees will be treated to music by Pastor Doug Freisen, pianist. Seating for the luncheon is limited; please contact the FIAMC offices at 815 455-3120 or visit the FIAMC website, fiamchenrycounty.org for reservations.

30 Hour Famine is coming up!

On May 14th-15th, our high school youth will spend a weekend in a most unpopular way—they will eat nothing for 30 straight hours, and 24 of those hours will be spent at church and around the community learning about hunger and doing mission projects to help alleviate hunger. Many of our youth are looking for sponsors, so please help them out!

25,000 children die from hunger or hunger-related preventable diseases every day. It sounds like an insurmountable problem, but we can do something about the number of deaths! It only takes $360 to feed a child for an entire year. Each of our youth is trying to feed at least one child for the year. Please ask a youth if you can sponsor them—every penny counts. Thanks!

Cookie Walk

Now is the time to come to the aid of your church. The December Cookie Walk is a RCLPC tradition dating back many years and has always been successful. There will be a meeting on May 16, 2010 at 10:30am in the 3rd grade classroom to discuss the Walk and inform volunteers regarding the organization of the Walk. We will need one Cookie Walk coordinator and several committee coordinators ... advertising, decorating, setup, drop off and Cookie Walk day. Please attend the meeting and sign up to help. It has been said, “many hands make work light!” The response will determine the fate of this year’s Cookie Walk. If you cannot attend the meeting and are interested in coordinating a committee, please let Cheryl Brincks know.

Save the Date!! VBS 2010 will be June 21-25:
Baobab Blast – God’s Great Get-Together

  • Registration forms are now available on-line and in the office.
  • It’s not too late to volunteer, if you are still interested! Just contact Julie Baser.
  • If you would like to lend a hand, but can’t be there that week, look for updates very soon.
  • Donation items will be needed.
Please contact Julie Baser with any questions

Community Drum Circle

You don’t have to be a drummer to participate—everyone has something to offer, and everyone is welcome! A Community Drum Circle is a fun, family friendly event designed to build community and help us experience release, stress relief, healing, and empowerment. Rev. Phyllis Mueller facilitates these “drumming for health” drum circles in many places around the county. This community drum circle is held at RCLPC in Fellowship Hall every 4th Monday from 7-8pm. The next drum circle will be on May 24—hope to see you! For more info, contact Phyllis at 815.382.0004.

Living Waters—a concert by the Shallowford Presbyterian Church Youth Choir

On Sunday, June 6, at 7:30pm, the Shallowford Presbyterian Youth Choir from Atlanta, directed by Emily Floyd, will be here at RCLPC as part of their Chicago-area summer tour. The music they will sing “explores the theme of water: water as sustenance, water as a symbol for trouble/our faith in God in times of trouble, water as a source of hope, we are claimed by God using water in baptism.” We hope you’ll join us in the sanctuary for this fabulous opportunity to hear great music and to meet Presbyterians from another part of the country.

Help us offer hospitality to the Shallowford Youth Choir!

On Sunday June 6, we need to provide dinner for the choir and their chaperones—61 people—at 5.45pm. Can you help? Talk to Teri for more details or to volunteer. That evening we also need to house the youth and adults (in groups of 2 or more) after the concert. All you need is a place for them to sleep and a place for them to shower, and a willingness to feed them breakfast and bring them back to church by 9am on Monday morning. Can you help? Talk to Teri. Thanks!

Share the Bounty

WE’VE BEEN BLESSED with an early spring! This year, we are jump-starting the season by helping you start your OWN garden. Parents, this is a great opportunity to introduce your children to gardening and help support Share the Bounty. Simply pick up your package of vegetable seeds at the Share the Bounty table and you’re good to go. If you have ANY questions about planting seeds, feel free to contact Marie Randall or Lois Johnson.

EXPERIENCE THE MIRACLE OF GROWING and at the same time, support our Share the Bounty table! When you bring in your home grown garden produce and plants, you are not only supporting a needy cause, you are spending time outdoors, getting exercise and enjoying a relaxing hobby.

SHARE YOUR PERENNIALS! This is the perfect time to divide perennials/herbs. If you would like to share them with others, bring them to the Share the Bounty table, but don’t forget to label your plants with sun requirements, etc. If you need help digging, please contact Marie Randall or Lois Johnson.

WHAT IS SHARE THE BOUNTY? It is an opportunity to support our local PADS Mission by donating garden produce, perennials, and herbs. Support for the PADS lunch program comes from donations made to Share the Bounty. Thank you for your support!

A container will be placed on the table to accept free will offerings.

Sprucing Up the Playground

Our thanks to the volunteers who came out and spruced up the Children’s play area in the back of the church. The volunteers shoveled out the old mulch, leveled the ground, and then spread new mulch over the whole area. It was a lot of work, but it looks great now. We also would like to thank the Shepherd’s Fold Preschool for donating the mulch. We know that all the children of the church, the preschool, and the neighborhood will spend many happy hours in our spruced up play area.

Oops! PADS Lunch Changes

PADS has requested that we deliver the 25 summer lunches on Mondays and not Fridays as was previously done. Please see the new sign up sheet in the Connecting Link. We will be making lunches on Sundays, after the 9:30am service and delivering them the following morning. If you are available, do sign up. With just 4 people the lunches can be prepared in 30 minutes.
