TAIZÉ WORSHIP

first Thursday of each month
7 pm in the sanctuary
Beginning in June

ABOUT TAIZÉ SERVICES

The Taizé community began in France in the 1940’s emphasizing peace and reconciliation. Today, Taizé style worship services have become very popular. Services have been described as a deep, spiritual experience and a creative opening to the world. Attendees are asked to enter in silence. The mood of the service is peaceful, with silent meditation being at the heart. A typical service consists of meditative singing, a scripture reading, prayer, and silence. The atmosphere is inspiring….lit candles adorn every corner of the worship space. Music is a prominent part of the service…not the typical organ and choir music that you would expect. Instead, you will hear a “folk music” kind of sound. The instrumentalists sit in the back so that the intense sound washes over your ears, leaving your eyes to focus on the glowing candlelight. The repetitive and simple nature of the songs will put you at ease and encourage you to lift your voice. With each repetition, the songs build and grow as new solo instruments improvise on top of the melody. RCLPC is blessed with many talented musicians, so come and give this new service a try.

Our charming and historic sanctuary provides the perfect setting for this transforming new style of worship. Join us in this new adventure ... beginning in June. Musicians (singers and instrumentalists) who are interested in participating should contact Emily Floyd by phone or via email.

Come ... Feel peace ... Be transformed

Instrumentalists/Vocalists NEEDED

We need musicians for the taize' service.  Please contact Emily Floyd if you are interested in playing or singing, so that she can get parts to you.  After we launch our first service in June, the rehearsal times will be one hour prior to each service (so, the first Thursday of every month at 6pm).  In preparation for our first taize' service, we will rehearse two times:  Saturday, May 28th 10:00 - 11:30 am and Thursday, June 2nd 6 - 7 pm.  Childcare will be provided during the rehearsals and worship services (6 - 8 pm) on Taize' evenings.

We express our heartfelt appreciation to Connie Rasmussen who is “retiring” from the RCLPC Personnel Committee after 13 years of faithful service. We have been blessed by her energy and expertise, and her willingness to shoulder such an important responsibility for so many years. Connie has played a significant role in the shaping of our current staff policies. She has set an outstanding example for her fellow committee members who will miss her caring advice and perspective. Thank you, Connie, for your hard work and dedication and for the generous way you have shared your time, talent, and energy with our congregation.

UPCOMING FELLOWSHIP

We have some activities tentatively scheduled this summer.

June 4th - Father and Child Bowling Party
July 19th - Family Miniature Golf Outing
August 27th - Adult Bowling Party

Do these sound like fun? Well, don't go marking them on your calendar just yet. We need help to make these activities happen. If there is anything you might be able to do to help with any of these activities, please call Karen Leuchtmann or Tina Stipati. We will be extremely grateful.

MISSIONS

THE CARING CART

Often during a worship service we hear requests to pray for illness, to remember a family who has lost a loved one or even a birth or anniversary to celebrate. We have good intentions of sending a card, but very often when we get home we forget. The Caring Crafters’ stamping group has stamped a variety of cards that will be accessible on Sunday mornings for your use. You may wish to send a Get Well card, a card of Sympathy, Congratulations, or Happy Birthday to one of our members. We have a large variety of these cards and others on our Caring Cart. You may select a card, write the message, address the envelope and put it in a box. The Caring Crafters will put a stamp on it and mail it for you. All we ask is a donation if you are able so we can purchase the stamps and the materials for the cards.

SHARE THE BOUNTY

It is that time of year again to start thinking, “Share the Bounty”, our annual plant and vegetable sale to benefit local missions. Please peruse your perennials and bring any which may need dividing. plantsPot your plants and don’t forget to label them. As vegetables and fruits grow and ripen, dedicated gardeners of our church bring fresh, surplus to share with friends who don’t have gardens. Questions? Call Dorothy Vick

NATIVE AMERICAN CONNECTION - "MASCOTS" REVISITED

At the annual Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council meeting in March in Madison, Wisconsin, the First State of the Tribes address was given to the Wisconsin Legislature. This monumental event was reported in the Hocak Worak newspaper.

Native veterans were honored and the Ho-Chunk Nation held a Drum ceremony. The President, Ray DePerry, gave a 20-minute speech on the use of Native American logos and mascots in Wisconsin public schools. As he was interviewed, he stated that although some native people remain neutral on the mascot issue, all 11 tribal governments in the state have issued statements opposing their use. Representative Frank Boyle stated that he sought support for a bill prohibiting the use of Indian logos and Mascots for the last seven legislative sessions but thus far the bill has failed to get out of committee.

DePerry believes "that when local control becomes a device used by school boards to preserve discriminatory practices, then its time for our State Legislature to end such discrimination. The mascot issue is affecting Native American students, often leading to confrontation" He asks that state lawmakers start working to solve the problem.

IN and AROUND RCLPC with BARB

Good morning - and as I am writing this column it is a good morning - finally. I want to start my column with an apology to the PRIDE family, not Price as went undetected last article. Mea Culpa!

We have a lot of interesting news. To start off:

* GEORGE GARRETY (husband of JUDY) has retired after working for the F.A.A. for 40 years. WOW! That is a very long time. George worked in the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Ohio and Illinois. When I asked him what his plans were for the near future he said, “NOTHING!” Congratulations to you George and Judy.

* Wedding plans are in the near future for ELIZABETH CRANE (mother of ALEX and ALDEN, daughter of DOUG) and FRANK NOVAK. They will be married on July the 24th in the Lake Zurich Library. How very befitting for two librarians. We will look forward to some photos and wish you our congratulations.

* MAGGIE RABE (daughter of LOU and KATHY, sister of BJ and ANDREW) has been selected as one of the top 100 graduates from the University of Illinois. WOW! I don’t know about you, but I’m impressed with anyone who even graduates from the U of I, let alone being in the top 100. Maggie was honored at a luncheon over Mom’s Weekend. She will graduate with honors on May 15th. According to mom here is the most exciting part - She already has a job. :- ) This really is wonderful news, Maggie, and we are all very proud of you.

* Other Honor Roll students: From Crystal Lake South: 9th grade - Giana Stipati and Laura Kay, 12th grade - Derek Stipati; Mc Henry: 10th grade - Kim Larson, 11th grade - Pete Larson; Cary Grove: 9th grade - Brittany Gronset, 10th grade- Melissa Zoerner. Our congratulations to each one of you. Our youth continue to make us proud.

* Happy Birthday to KATY HOLUB (daughter of LEROY and JANET). Katy was 7 years old and her picture was in the Herald.

* Also, pictured in the paper, was our wonderful choir shown getting ready for the cantata - Celebrate life and PASTOR RICHARD accompanied by KAREN LEUCHTMANN, DAVID DEES, DALE PRINDIVILLE and TINA STIPATI. They represented our potluck dinner where we discussed our Six Commitments. MARY MOLTMANN has been doing such a wonderful job getting publicity photos of R.C.L.P.C. in the Herald. We thank you so much Mary.

I will close with the words of Mother Teresa who said, “It is a gift of God to us to be able to share our love with others.” Let us continue to do just that - share our love with others.

Thank you for spending this time with me. I am: Barb Turley
