Christmas Eve Worship Services
3:30, 5:30, 7:30, 9:00 & 10:30

The 3:30 service is designed especially for families with young children. The Little Lambs (pre-school through kindergarten) and Sounds of Joy (grades 1-5) choirs will share “Chimes in the Night” as the message for the service. We will also sing Christmas hymns (with organ accompaniment) and share communion.

The 5:30 service will be “Christmas Unplugged,” combining elements from our alternative and more traditional services. We will sing Christmas carols (with acoustic guitar accompaniment) and Jubilation (our youth choir) will provide special music. We will also share communion and sing “Silent Night” by candlelight. Teri will provide the message for this service.

At the 7:30, 9:00 & 10:30 services we will sing Christmas hymns (with organ accompaniment) and the adult choir will provide special music. We will also share communion and sing “Silent Night” by candlelight. Richard will preach at all three services.

We look forward to sharing Christmas Eve together. We hope you will plan to attend one (or more) of our services and will invite others to join us. Thank you.

After Christmas

There will be one service only on Sunday, Dec. 30th at 9:30am.

Team Night - December 17, 7pm

The church conducts its ministry primarily through eight teams: four session teams (Worship, Education, Administration, and Stewardship) and four deacon teams (Welcoming, Caring, Fellowship, and Mission).

All eight teams meet together on the third Monday of even months for a time of worship, work, and fellowship. Our next team night is Monday, December 17, at 7pm. We will begin with a time of worship in the sanctuary. Then we will break up into teams for (brief) work. Then we will gather in fellowship hall to celebrate Christmas.

Everyone is invited to worship with us, find a team to work with, and join us for refreshments. We are asking everyone to bring something yummy to share with the group.

Hope to see you on team night on December 17 for a time of worship, work, and fellowship!

Building & Grounds Corner
Open Space

Next time you enter church through the old front doors, you will notice a nice new open look. That’s because Dan Gilman and his team have been busy this week opening up the wall where the member mail boxes used to be to give our entry a more welcoming appearance. That along with closing off the old closet entrance that previously greeted you has made a dramatic difference in first impressions of our building. A big thanks to Dan for all his hard work. Yes, we still have the mail boxes; you will find them to the left on the lower stair landing as you enter.

Cookie Walk Talk

Nancy and I are incredibly grateful for the spirit of RCLPC. The days were a flurry of activity for us… juggling the responsibilities of the Cookie Walk and the increased needs of both of our families. Regrettably, we could not dedicate as much of ourselves to this important mission and we were worried that this would effect its outcome; we fretted that you would forget. That is where you came in. With minimal input from us, you remembered. You remembered! … and there could not have been a better gift. You came through to make this another incredibly successful year. To date, our sales totaled just under $3500. We celebrate you. You continue to make RCLPC a beacon in the community. Stay posted for more news in the next month or so...

With all this being said, Nancy and I have prayerfully decided to step down from coordinating the Cookie Walk. We both feel it would be best to hand the torch off to those who could devote the time that it deserves; time we will not be able to give. For me, it is a melancholy decision. I've been blessed to co-facilitate with an incredible lady for three years and have basked in the warmth of a room full of dedicated RCLPC members each second Saturday of December (Cookie Walk Day). I know the new coordinators will be fortunate to be with those same volunteers next year, and I hope they get to work with someone as caring and dedicated to giving to the community as Nancy Blakely.

Warmly, Marypatriece Raupp

Just a Reminder...

Our stewardship campaign is still underway. If you have not yet filled out a pledge card, we encourage you to do so at your earliest convenience. If you need a pledge card, please contact the church office. Thank you for helping us to catch the Spirit!

Food Pantry Work Day – Friday, Dec. 21

Our church’s next scheduled work day for the Crystal Lake Food Pantry is Friday, Dec. 21. Please consider helping out and volunteering to work at the food pantry. The numbers of families in need continue to grow in our county and we need all the extra help we can get. If you have questions, please contact Nancy Vazzano.

A way to learn more about your faith? A way to connect with others in our church family? New small groups will be forming in January, and some of our Advent groups may be continuing or adding new members. Talk to Teri if you’re interested.

Notes from Our Troops

Below are several thank you notes that we have received back from our troops in Iraq in response to the Christmas stockings that were sent to them.
To All Members of Ridgefield Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church,
I received one of your Christmas stockings and would like to express my thanks.  Unlike some of my fellow Marines I will be in the states trying to get things setup back home.  However I won’t be able to spend time with my family since they moved to Texas.  But growing up around the military I know what it means to have family deployed.  So again I want to say thank you.  And I hope that all your holidays this Christmas Season are great and filled with joy and happiness.

Cpl Rohman

On behalf of my Marines and myself, I would like to thank you for the Christmas stockings that you sent to MALS-29 here in Iraq.  Your bit of Christmas cheer helps to go a long ways during our deployment and to brighten our days even though we can’t be at home with our loved ones.  I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.

Sincerely, Paul Moreno

On behalf of our command, we want to thank your church for demonstrating Christ’s love to our Marines and Sailors.  Have a great day! Jon

Dear members of The Ridgefield Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church,

I just wanted you all to know how much myself; and all of the other marines that I work with, appreciated the wonderful Christmas gifts that you put together for us.  Your thoughts and prayers and kindness have not gone un-noticed and I know I speak for more than myself when I say that the gifts made the holidays all the more brighter.  Again, thank you for your consideration and thoughts.

God Bless and happy holidays!
Marissa G. Mattu

Good evening to all,

My name is Cpl Parada, Jonathan. First of all I want to say thank you for the time and money that has been taking from ya’ll, to put together these stockings for the Marines here at MALS 29. Each stocking that has been received, has brought a smile to each person and a little closer to home. Thank you.

Cpl Parada

Good Afternoon from Iraq. I just wanted to say thank you for the stockings. Its good to know that there are Americans like yourself supporting us while were out here. I hope you have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year and again thank you so very much. Take care and be safe.

Greetings Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church,

I would like to thank everyone for the stockings that were sent out here to Al Asad, It really brightened up my and the Marines day. There are 7 marines in my shop, and I know that many other shops received your gifts as well.  They will be out here through Christmas this year so receiving reminders like this that we are still cared about back home is wonderful. The shop is hectic right now preparing for the end of the year and our eventual transition back to the states, but we wanted to drop a short note back. Thank you again for the support.

NATIVE AMERICAN CONNECTION

Porcupine Clinic
Reported by Stephanie Schwartz, a member of the Native American Journalists Assn. through the Dakota/Lakota Journal.

The Porcupine Clinic located on the Pine Ridge Oglala Lakota Reservation is out of heat according to Stella White Eyes of the Clinic. It is the only independent Indian community-controlled health clinic in the United States and is funded primarily by grants and donations. Unfortunately, those resources have become exceptionally rare this year. Hence after 15 years of serving the entire Reservation as well as the Porcupine District in which it is located, it has closed its doors until it can find resources to fund heating costs. If all three propane tanks (a 1,000 gallon tank and two 500 gallon tanks were filled at $1.69 per gallon, it would cost well over $3,000. Further, that will need to happen more than once this winter.

In 2004 it opened its dialysis unit, saving countless lives of those diabetic patients who could not journey 120 miles away to Rapid City for treatment several times a week. Recent statistics state that the diabetes rate on Pine Ridge is 800% that of the National average and the life expectancy rate is 52 to 58 years old. It is said that 55% of the adults on Pine Ridge over the age of 40 have diabetes. The clinic has also provided locals with the warmth they need on days when they have no heat in their own homes. Donations can be sent directly to the clinic at P. O. Box 99, Porcupine, SD 57772 or phone 605-867-5655 and leave a message for more information as to whether sufficient help has been provided yet.
